Swamini Atmaprakashananda visits Germany, July 2014

Famous for its cultural, commercial and banking achievements – not to mention its skyscrapers – Frankfurt cannot, however, be said to be well known for Vedanta. And yet, a visit in mid July this year from Swamini Atmaprakashananda may have begun to change that.

She had been invited by Franz and Eva Reuter, a couple with a strong interest in self-knowledge, an interest keen enough to attract not only many other like-minded Germans, but also a teacher.

Swaminiji spent four days there, giving several talks to the large groups the Reuters assembled. One talk in particular: 'Freedom – the choiceless end' was a masterpiece! A video of it heads this page. That, plus the other talks, were so good they now form part of our 'Vedanta Stage 1' course.

Below is another excellent talk, given a couple of days later – The Means of Knowledge.

During her brief stay in Germany, she also found time to meet and encourage the efforts of a man who studies Sanskrit and Vedanta almost unaided, and also to renew old friendships in Dusseldorf.

The visit was marked not only by the warmth and friendliness of the Germans she met but especially by their eagerness to know.
